The 2013 Quincentennial Anniversary of Florida presented an ideal opportunity to undertake a new commemorative publication featuring the bounty of our state and the beauty of our Governor’s Mansion. The inspiration for this book began early in the tenure of Governor and Mrs. Rick Scott. For the first time in over a decade, the arrival of a new First Family coincided with the arrival of a new executive chef. Simple, fresh and elegant dishes served at the mansion ensure that Florida’s sumptuous produce, meat and seafood always take center stage on each and every official occasion.
The centerpiece of our Viva Florida 500 commemoration at the residence was the unveiling of Christopher Still’s opus masterpiece, a three-panel painting entitled La Florida on April 2, 2013. Included in the painting are many of the most historic artifacts housed at the mansion, including the USS Florida Silver Punch Bowl, the Lafayette Clock and other important Florida treasures—all rendered in exquisite detail. Thus came the inspiration for this recipe book, a fitting keepsake for all of the families of Florida and beyond, inspired by First Lady Ann Scott whose dedication to making this house a home will endure for generations to come.
